The deep understanding of materials and their electronic, structural, and dynamic properties requires, alongside traditional measurement methods, the use of experimental techniques and probes not available in individual research laboratories.

The Doctoral School aims to be at the forefront of teaching and research. Part of the experimental activities take place in large research infrastructures, international laboratories where particularly refined instruments are open to the use of the scientific community, with access through proposals peer reviewed evaluation.

The University of Rome Tor Vergata is recognized for the primary role that its teachers play nationally and internationally as regards both scientific experiments and the design and construction of instrumentation installed in the Large Research Infrastructures.

As part of the numerous international collaborations, it is envisaged that part of the research activities will take place in foreign universities and research centers.
